My name is Gary Rhodes, owner of Rhozart. I’ve been in business thirty-five years, the first sixteen years as owner of Surfside Signs in Santa Cruz, California. Inspired and taught by my woodworker grandfather, I loved woodworking from a young age. I propelled that love into Surfside Signs and won numerous Signs of the Times Magazine design awards. I had the opportunity to work with such masters as master carver Alexander “Chips” Zellar, the late Rick Glawson of Fine Gold Sign Company, and many talented artists all over the United States. I know what it is to compete for a high level of quality and originality of design.
After selling Surfside Signs in 1993 I started Rhozart so that I could cover all areas such as hand carving, gold leaf (all grades), glue chip glass and other clear glass techniques, reverse glass gilding and painting, new or restored antique reverse glass decorations, sculpture, home address/name signs, hand carved family crests, quality hand crafted solid wood furniture, and heirloom antique restoration.
Inspired by our setting in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, Rhozart specializes in esoteric and unusual lost arts, not just to preserve them, but because they are still beautiful and useful.
